Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is an autoimmune disease characterized by excessive fibrosis and tissue stiffness, in which monocytes and macrophages are increasingly recognized as key contributors to pro-fibrotic myofibroblast formation, although the underlying mechanisms remain incompletely understood.
